The Glenturret to Support Scottish Racing Driver Ross Wylie

The Glenturret to Support Scottish Racing Driver Ross Wylie

We are proud to reveal we have sponsored Scottish racing driver Ross Wylie in this year’s Porsche Carrera Cup Great Britain.

The 31-year-old, from Dumfries, will fly the flag for Scottish enterprise, skill, courage and speed behind the wheel of his specially painted Porsche 911 race car. The Glenturret Porsche Carrera Cup car, which is owned by Ross, will be fully liveried in the iconic blue and white of the brand; The Glenturret’s insignia will appear on the bonnet, doors, roof, engine cover, rear wing and endplates of his Glenturret Porsche Carrera Cup car.

Dumfries and Galloway has given birth to several well-known racers. Among them are 13-time Grand Prix winner David Coulthard, triple Le Mans 24 Hours winner and ex-F1 driver Allan McNish, and the late GT and touring car pro David Leslie. Wylie hopes to be the area’s next champion driver.

The Glenturret are now Wylie’s main sponsor, the driver having got a taste for the brand’s Single Malt during Covid lockdown in 2020, when his driving duties were put on hold.

“For the past 20 years, I’ve been very fortunate to travel the world through my career in motorsports and attend many beautiful events along the line, during which the odd whisky was served. I always felt a bit of a fraudster though, not liking the smell or taste of whisky as a Scotsman! Then a few years ago, I was first introduced to The Glenturret at Donnington Park through a friend of mine. I was naturally drawn to the beautiful bottles and decided it was time to learn more about the art of whisky making, and to develop my taste buds. I was very fortunate to taste the whole Glenturret range and experience a visit to The Glenturret distillery to learn more about the history and the process of how whisky is made – which is really fascinating! Through all of this, I have simply fallen in love with the brand, with my favourite go-to being the 12 Years Old. Only when I’m not driving, of course!”

ROSS WYLIE

Ross was a petrolhead from the age of three, when his parents first stuck him on a quad bike, and at the age of 12 he swapped farm tracks for the karting circuit. He was raised in the village of Thornhill, where he still lives today. Alongside his studies, Ross rose through the four-wheeled ranks: he won his first Scottish karting championships in 2007, before winning British cups and titles in 2008, 2010 and 2011. The following year, he moved up to car racing, finishing the 2013 Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup fifth, for which he was selected as a British Racing Drivers Club ‘Rising Star’ nominee. Success in the British GT4 Championship led to Ross becoming a BRDC ‘SuperStar’ and a McLaren ‘Young Driver’ and catapulted him into the Britcar Endurance Championship and the Porsche Carrera Cup.

Together, Ross and The Glenturret will put the Glenturret Porsche Carrera Cup car on the grid starting with Donington Park, the opening round of this year’s Porsche Carrera Cup on 22-23 April, followed by Brands Hatch on 6-7 May, Thruxton on 3-4 June, Oulton Park on 17-18 June, and a homecoming for driver and sponsor at Knockhill in Fife on 12-13 August. Second visits to Donington and Brands and a round at Silverstone follow in the autumn.
