GLENTURRET DISTILLERY’S MOST FAMOUS FELINE BECOMES THE LATEST FAMOUS BOTTLE YOUR OWN WHISKY
Glenturret Distillery has announced that the latest limited edition Bottle Your Own cask is to be named after the most famous furry face in the history of the 240-year old distillery: Towser.
An exclusive cask of limited edition bottles named after the world-record holding cat will be available at Glenturret’s Distillery shop, part of Crieff-based The Famous Grouse Experience. Dubbed ‘Towser the Mouser’ by thousands who visit the award-winning whisky attraction, the dedication marks 30 years since the passing of the world mousing champion.
Towser took up her post as mouser in 1963, catching 28,899 mice during her 24-years of service at Glenturret Distillery before passing away in 1987. Her remarkable mouse-catching career was celebrated with a Guinness World Record and she has been fondly commemorated by a bronze statue at her home at The Famous Grouse Experience.
The furry feline follows in the steps of an illustrious line of Bottle Your Own celebrities who have ties to the Perthshire area including actors Gerard Butler and Ewan McGregor, tennis ace Andy Murray and The Earl and Countess of Strathearn.
The Bottle Your Own series is hand-picked as an exceptional cask from the Glenturret Distillery. These are extremely collectable and the bottles from these casks are only available by bottling your own from the Glenturret Distillery shop and is also available online on both the The Famous Grouse UK and global sites.
Stuart Cassells, General Manager at The Famous Grouse Experience, said:
“Our Bottle Your Own experience always proves incredibly popular and Towser will take her rightful place alongside the other Bottle Your Own ‘celebrities’. With it being 30 years since the passing of Glenturret Distillery’s most famous feline, we thought it was about time she was celebrated with her very own cask of the whisky she protected for so many years.”
Continuing the charity donation from the Bottle Your Own, a £5 donation from each bottle sold will go to this cask’s chosen charity, the Snow Leopard Trust, which aims to aims to protect endangered cats through community-based conservation projects.
